That's because you didn't change the CFLAGS for 'sunos5' in setup.py to 
match what's needed for using gcc. (look and the 'linux2' entry for an 
example).
The CFLAGS for 'sunos5' (Solaris) are currently set for using Sun Studio 
C++.
