As should have been clear from the many threads, using PyLucene under 
mod_python does not work.

However, as mentioned on the wiki 
http://chandlerproject.org/PyLucene/ApacheAndPyLucene, the newly released 
gcj-4.2 may alleviate this problem, but AFAIK, no one has tried using a 
gcj-4.2 linked PyLucene under mod_python.
