Interesting, I'm in the process of installing that very same OS right now.
I should know more about this later...

In the meantime, if you're blocked by this, you may want to revert to an 
earlier gcj, of the 3.4.x series.

For what it's worth, I did compile PyLucene with gcj 4.1.0 on Mac OS X PPC and 
all unit tests passed, including this one.
