You might also try a Filter... LIA has a nice example of using it for exactly 
that... Everyone doing anything non-trivial w/ (Py)Lucene should own that 
book.

It's a great OSS business model - write an incredibly useful but complex 
software, and sell the documentation. ;) The Lucene JavaDoc is quite 
extensive, but relying on that alone is a bit too forest-for-the-trees.
