I'm working on a benchmark suite for Lucene, which exercises various 
aspects like creating indexes and searching them, over a set of variable 
parameters. It uses a well-known reference corpus "20 newsgroups", so it 
should be repeatable and provide some meaningful results.

I expect a release before the end of the year. I'll send a heads-up to 
Lucene mailing lists, and here as well, if I don't forget ;-)
