Well, a debate about what technologies are useful to implement web
services is clearly out-of-scope here.

I've been looking at the Google calendar API and it seems fairly
interesting.

No indeed. I'd be tempted to send RDF encodings of iCal in my WS
message payload, if I could carve out time to work on such a thing.
