Hi everyone,

John Anderson suggested I send an introductory email out to the list,
so here it is.

It's been almost 20 years since I got involved in
internationalization - OK, that makes me feel old. My first job after
college was working on the Lisa and then the Mac, but in 1985 I moved
to Japan and helped develop KanjiTalk, which was the Japanese version
of the Mac OS. After that came the Chinese Mac OS, then some
supporting work on Thai & Arabic. In 1987 I started TransPac
Software, and we've been doing int'l software development and
consulting for most of the years since then.

In 1997 we helped US Robotics create the Japanese version of Palm OS
3.1, which then led to seven years of consulting work for
3Com/Palm/PalmSource on international aspects of Palm OS.

This year it became obvious that I needed a change, and Chandler
seems to fit the goal of a project that's personally interesting,
technically challenging, and also socially meaningful. So I've
started digging into the I18N and L10N issues, while trying to come
up to speed on the brave new world of XML databases, Python
programming, and the open source environment.

I've written a very rough page that discusses some of the int'l
issues, which you can hopefully get to via my user page on the
Chandler Wiki at
