[Not sure which list to follow up to.] Have you seen Brad Templeton's similar proposal? http://www.templetons.com/brad/crypt.html Python implementation: http://freshmeat.net/projects/herbrip/ I think that putting the fingerprint and URL for your key in your headers is a good idea generally. It's also faster and more efficient than your XML idea. Since we've done pretty well without encrypted email so far, I think the cost of waiting for a message from the other party before encrypting isn't too high.
