There are some changes required here, so far as I can tell. In
general stamping and unstamping of occurrences is pretty broken right
now, but I'm hoping the changes I'm working on for bug 7446 will help
out muchly.

For some reason, the Read/Unread case seems more compelling to me
than Needs Reply. But I'd be happy to try Needs Reply this way, and
raise a hue and cry if it's not meeting my needs :).
