What kind of constructive question is that?

I am being serious here. I don't know much about Cosmo or our Hub
installation. Why exactly do we need to communicate with Hub users over
email? Legal reasons? Service update announcements? To prevent bot
signups (email verification does not actually stop this)? To harvest
email addresses to sell to spammers (ok, I know it is not this)?
Something else?
