how about storing a backup of your profile in your home directory on
cosmo, if you have one, or locally if not? this means you'd simply
have to 1) re-enter your cosmo account info or 2) choose a file from
the local filesystem (even that could be hidden, i suppose).

storing profile info on the server opens up the opportunity for having
multiple chandler instances on different machines sharing the same
profile. alternative to syncing?
