[Design] [Sum] Last week on the design list (Jan 7-13)

All,

The design list has seen quite a bit of activity of late which is not  
surprising since we are receiving dogfood feedback for 0.6 as well as  
initiating most of the 0.7 design discussions. We realize it's  
difficult for everyone to keep up on all the threads so we have  
decided to send out a weekly summary that briefly highlights the  
issues that were discussed along with any decisions that were made  
and next steps where appropriate. We really intend to send this out  
on Friday's so I apologize for the delay. This summary will cover  
Chandler, Scooby as well as Cosmo design discussions.

Mimi will also be summarizing some of the individual threads in more  
detail (look for the [Sum] keyword) in the subject).

Below is the summary for last week. Feedback on this process is welcome!

Decisions
+ We wrapped up the focus in the sidebar issue, deciding that focus  
should by default.
+ Process: Consolidating design discussion across all 3 projects:  
Chandler, Scooby and Cosmo on design list. Introducing predefined  
tagging system.

Design Proposals
+ Simple expando email addressing fields proposal for 0.7. Next  
action (Sheila): Schedule discussion with apps team.
+ Simple expando date/time fields proposal for 0.7. Next action  
(Sheila): Schedule discussion with apps team.
+ Simple expando date/time fields proposal spawned a subsequent  
discussion on ways to internationalize the textual date/time summary  
described in the proposal. Next action (Apps team): ???
+ 0.7 Proposal for a preference to turn on Timezones support,  
otherwise, all events are Floating. Next action (Mitch): Provide  
feedback and guidance.
+ 0.7 proposal for showing multiple collection colors on events in  
the Calendar. Next action (Mimi): 2nd rev of mock-ups.

Design ideas and explorations
+ Continued to discuss simple ideas for a plausible CLI-for-dummies.  
Next action (Sheila): How does this fit into our 0.7 tenets?
+ Jeffrey posted a summary of Recurrence work still to come. Next  
action (Sheila): How does this fit into our 0.7 tenets?
+ Mimi posted a suggestions submitted via bugzilla by Sean  
Reifschneider for a "Nag-reminder" feature. Next action (Mimi): How  
does this interact with our own notion of Ticklers in the Dashboard?
+ Mimi mocked up a fish-eye tile-based view of the Dashboard.

Process
+ Discussing how we should process feedback and feature suggestions  
collected via bugzilla. Next action (Design team): Take suggestions  
and feedback from the list and come up with a proposal to re-propose  
to the list.
+ Revisited Daniel's Email 2.0 proposal. Next action (Daniel): Write  
up something in more detail.

Dogfood feedback
+  How do I share calendars? Next action (Design team): Aggregate and  
making available all Dogfood feedback collected thus far.
+ Steven Garrity from silverorange (the design company doing pro bono  
work for Firefox and the Tango project) offered help with Chandler  
icons for Linux. Next action (Mimi): Follow up with Steven.

Research
+ Ted posted a call for an evaluation of Mail Tags. Next action  
(Mimi): Need to reply and connect to our own proposal for tagging in  
0.7.
+ Philippe posted an article offering an alternative viewpoint on the  
virtues (and vices) of effective task management.

Announcements
+ Ted announced that a discussion about community was starting on  
general at osafoundation.org.
