I found this request from an IRC user when I was reviewing my IRC logs:

just out of curiosity...do any of you guys know if Chandler plans to
separate the job of handling event notifications into a separate
process, ie a daemon that can run in the background all the time
without requiring that the main app be open?

00:30 Alumin
Lotus Organizer was an absolute killer app that kept me on MS Windows
probably longer than I otherwise would have stayed, but one of the few
things I didn't like about it was that you had to have the whole app
running all the time to get alerts

00:33 Alumin
so personally I think it would be great if the alerts were handled by a
separate process that knew by itself how to send mail, use xmessage or
xdialog or write or wall, play a tune on the PC speaker, blink the
keyboard LEDs, whatever notification the user uses

00:39 Alumin
anyway, just wanted to throw that out there :)

00:40 Alumin
it's great to finally see this is a usable application, I've been
poking my head around at the web site for quite some time now...but
since I'm not a developer, this is the first time I've found something
I can actually download and try :P
