Jim,

The spec you read was just for alpha 2 specifically, it doesn't yet  
include all the work we are doing in 0.7. You can certainly choose to  
sync collections individually but we haven't really talked about  
whether or not to be able to restrict synching to a particular type  
of item.

We are currently in the process of implementing a background sync  
which will allow you to continue to use the app while the sync is  
happening. Once we have had some time to try that out, we will decide  
what the next logical steps are for dealing with performance.
