If you are using a Mac, Spotlight indexes iChat conversations.  It  
also happens to index my Snak IRC chat logs.

What Spotlight doesn't do is associate iChat/IRC conversations with  
people in my address book.  Nor does it mine
those conversations for urls or other interesting data.
