If you can persuade all the people that I currently collaborate with  
to stop using e-mail, then this is probably workable.  But since a  
large proportion of my information overload comes from e-mail, it  
seems inescapable to me that we are going to have to do something  
with e-mail.    For my own personal use cases (again acknowledging  
the shakiness of anecdotal data), e-mail and RSS account for the  
overwhelming majority of information tasks.   So for my personal  
usage, we're not making any progress at reducing information overload  
never mind augmentation in the Engelbart sense.

That's not to say that we should try to pursue a more innovative  
collaboration story.  It just means that I don't think that we can  
ignore e-mail.
