Too follow up on this thread about short term versus long term goals, 
here is a little conversation about "knowledge management" which I 
found enlightening:

"Knowledge management is key, but that consideration must come from the 
companies' heads and reflect to the workers, along with direct 
motivation. Without that, no worker will take care of it by himself.

The key is probably not building the perfect tool (which would 
certainly help), is finding a way to demonstrate a direct and rapid 
correlation between KM and productivity. Once convinced the boss, 99% 
of the work is done."
