OK this seems like a better alternative--didn't think of this. I was stuck
in a Lotus Domino rut when I wrote that.

I'm thinking that some kind of conditional encryption might work. And even
if any dead-man switch can be bypassed, it is still better than nothing. It
is the same as having locks on the doors in your house--they won't stop a
competent burglar, but you still have them because it does stop most casual
thieves.
