[Design] Feature RequestDon Smith Tue, 28 Jan 2003 18:22:57 +0200
I have perused the Design section of the mailing lists by subject and have not found anything on the following. Some additional features in the Email Section that I think would be of benefit to many users are as follows. FEATURE 1 One button Send With Compressed Attachments,(Plain & Self Extracting). Both would have to be offered as many Systems Admins do not allow .exe files through their email systems.) Depending on your Operating System the Compression format would have to be selectable. (Most Windows users can only open Zip files or formats supported by WinZip) This should be quite simple as I believe there is a ZIP library or add-on for Python This link http://www.baxbex.com/bxautozip.html leads to an OUTLOOK add-on that gives this feature. They claim that a study from GIGA Information Group claims that this feature can save US$ 18.96 per month per PC. Perhaps other OUTLOOK ADD_ONS could be a fertile source for ideas of additional features that could enhance Chandler. A facility within the Email Rules or Filter System to automatically save attachments to a specified Folder with the option of changing the name. My reasoning here is that often in the real world people regularly send you files and often these files always have the same name, sometimes you only want the latest version (an example here could be price lists) and Save & Overwrite would be OK but often you need to keep each copy. Perhaps the file's name could have the date or date & time appended to the file name? Where discussion was taking place on the Rules and Filtering system, contributors suggesting a WIZARD type basic interface backed up by an Advanced scripting facility. From my experience with Outlook the biggest omission for an entry level user was the lack of an “OR” function, The only way to handle this missing functionality was to write multiple rules where with “OR” one would do.
