I suggest making an "evolutionary" product (no one will bother to learn a
radically different interface) with fun "hooks".

Help Joe User filter out spam.
Help Joe User send "Merry Xmas" mail to a group without looking up how to do
it.
Give Joe User wysiwyg printing.
Help Joe User insert pictures, sound, and files through one, quick
interface.

Include "emoticons", and lots of them!

Finally, how about a way to separate multiple forwards back out into
individual email messages?
...or at least, a way to auto format forwards to get rid of the ">>" and the
verbose headers.
