[Design] Microsoft's Grand Central e-mail interface

While the idea of a thread overview may not be new, I still wonder how best to integrate such a feature into Chandler's email app. One possiblility might be as follows.
The traditional email view with the three windows might be modified a bit. Just for orientation of this discussion, the three window frames I am talking about are:
1) the portrait shaped frame on the left margin for the file tree
2) the landscape shaped frame on top right for the email list view
3) the landscape shaped frame on bottom right for the email text display
Frames 1 and 3 could remain the same as usual but frame 2 could be modified with two tabs:
A) One tab for the traditional email list display, which I will refer to as the Email List Tab for this discussion.
B) The other tab could be for displaying a Thread Summary Tab which displays the thread overview of the selected email message from the Email List Tab.
Hence, in practice, one might click on an email message from the Email List Tab then select the Thread Summary tab within the same frame to see an overview of the selected email thread.
Ill take this opportunity to wish all involved with OSAF a very happy, prosperous new year!
