[Design] ZeroConf / Rendezvous

I'm not quite one of the types I see on this list with the impressive 
technical resume, and detailed ideas about language use and examples.  
But I'd like to toss out the idea of using an implementation of Apple's 
Rendezvous system enabled in this application.  Being able to seek out 
and automatically find and interact with other applications on the 
network would be a great thing to have, as long as there was a properly 
configurable trust management system in place.

I just started an administration/repair job on a small business LAN and 
even in a small environment like mine, making sure everyone is smoothly 
connected to everyone else is a true nightmare.  This project sounds 
like exactly the kind of thing I'd like to see someday, particularly if 
it can do its own detection and integration with a LAN as machines and 
users get added.
