[Design] Requirements?Pito Salas Thu, 28 Nov 2002 19:50:05 -0500
Hi Andy, I sure am interested in the project. I appreciate your answers to the questions I posed, and let me answer right away your final question: Am I interested in helping the project? Yes, I am. After Improv I spent some years diving deep on commercial collaborative software (eRoom) and the topic of email is one I've thought a bit about. (Not to mention of course that I was an avid Agenda user in its day.) Let's talk about how I can best help. Your list of answers to my questions is an excellent start at articulating requirements. I hope it is captured by the appropriate people and used as a basis for having the same kind of hard-nosed debate as is being carried on on architectural matters. I'm not going to comment on each of your answers, but more generally suggest (what I'm sure is no news to you) that I think as much attention needs to be given to nailing down what chandler is and isn't (Cheers to Kevin Frank's recent post: "[Design] What Chandler *won't* do") as how it's built, what the architecture is and whether it has infinite undo. So maybe I'll play the same role that I seem to play on every product that I've been involved in... Anyone ever heard the expression "you know you're done [designing] when there's nothing left to cut"? Let's talk. Regards, and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Pito
