[Design] request for fine controls over new-mail alerts

I just came accross an interesting link regarding how to represent alerts: 
http://zzz.com.ru/142.html , seems a very handy approach to me. 

The approach described kinda yields a radarscreen (look at the pic in the 
above link) where an alert shows as a dot. The higher the priority of the 
alert the closer to the center of the radarscreen its dot will appear. The 
radar screen is divided in different sections (inbox, tasks, calender, ...).
