[Design] Multiple email addresses with multiple reply tos

Tamir Halperin Wed, 6 Nov 2002 09:04:25 -0500

Here's something I've been looking for in an email package for years.

A single user is responsible for multiple email addresses. John (john@abc.com) is also handling all email to support@def.com as well as others like training@ghi.com. He needs to be able to receive all these emails into one convenient mailbox (regardless of how many folders) or one convenient profile (regardless of how many mailboxes). When the emails arrive to him, he should be able to note from looking at the email that it was in fact intended for either himself at the abc.com domain or to the training department at the ghi.com domain and so on.

When he replies to emails originally sent to john@abc.com the emails arrive at the recipient's mailbox with that email in the from field. But when John replies to an email sent to support@def.com, the email arrives at the recipient's mailbox with support@def.com in the from field.

When recipients receive emails from John and reply to them, the [reply to] address needs to correspond to the [from] address. So that if a recipient replies to an email that came back to them from support@def.com, then that email address is in the [to] field as they type their reply.

Any thoughts? Sorry if this has been covered before but the traffic in this list is so wonderfully abundant that I may have missed it as I scanned through all the messages.

Subject: [Design] mailing list manager: intelligent digest parsing

Nobody ever replies to a list digest, do they? Don't
people tend to reply to single messages within the
digest?

While not all digests look exactly alike, they don't
all look radically different, either, so it would be
nice if Chandler was able to separate out the
component messages, and ask which message you're
replying to, and only present you with the one
message, and filling in the message's subject line, as
opposed to Re: Digest #106.
