[Design] blue sky: request for geographic data awarenessKaitlin Duck Sherwood Tue, 05 Nov 2002 17:20:39 -0800
Here's a "blue sky" (i.e. one that I don't actually expect to get into Chandler any time soon) feature request: good handling of geographic data, including GPS coordinates. I'd like to be able to query "show me map locating Dave's house" and have Chandler tell me, "I don't know where Dave's house is exactly, but I have a map to Joan's house and Dave lives nearby." For this to work, Joan and Dave have to both have GPS fields linked to their address(es); Joan's address also has to have a link to a map. If Chandler is really clever, it can maintain a database of maps culled from arbitrary sources, with information about the location, scale, and orientation of the map. Then it could stitch together multiple maps in response to arbitrary geographical requests like "show me restaurants within two kilometers" Alternatively, Chandler could have have hooks for plugging in different map vendors' CDs. (But Chandler still needs some embedded understanding of GPS coordinates.) This is absolutely NOT a "must-have" feature. However, it *is* something that would distinguish Chandler from other PIMs. -- Kaitlin Duck Sherwood Author of the _Overcome Email Overload_ series, http://www.EmailOverload.com
