Hmm... I can see all kinds of applications for this.
Even things as simple as a monthly report, due every month -- I really don't 
need six months of it on my horizon at all times, only say, the last week of 
the month.

Wedding Anniversaries and Birthdays, perhaps a month's warning.

This is sounding like it's overlapping with reminders.
