I re-read this thread, and I think it boils down to two issues:

1) items created as CalDAV tasks should remain tasks from the CalDAV
perspective and not be converted into events.

2) primarily-CalDAV users might want to see task-only items in the web
calendar view, whereas primarily-web users might not.

does that sound right?

if so, here are proposals to address the issues:

1) add a flag to the task stamp that indicates the item should be
exported to iCalendar as a VTODO regardless of whatever other stamps
the item might have, and set the flag when VTODOs are created with
CalDAV or Atom.

2) add a UI preference that determines whether or not task-only items
are shown in the calendar view.

thoughts?

ps: I haven't opened any bugs on this yet, but when we have a concrete
plan I will.
