what makes you think that?

the one statement doesn't follow from the other. just because a tool
was developed to meet one need doesn't mean that other people won't
come along and want to use that tool.

if we can prove conclusively that the web ui does not perform well
enough without encoding, then i don't mind considering an option like
this. of course, we'd have to define some performance goals first.
