that's not the point. the 3 queries (which can be issued in parallel)
are for the same data feed but parameterized differently. this allows
us to, for instance, retrieve the next 25 LATER items and all NOW
items and the previous 10 DONE items without having an overly
complicated query syntax or implementation.
