Dojo's Deferreds are a port of MochiKit's:

There's way more functionality there than you see in the Dojo API ref 
because Mochi's Async module handles all the XHR stuff (see 
loadJSONDoc/doSimpleXMLHttpRequest) that the Dojo guys would do with 
io.bind -- but at least it has some explanation on the concepts, and a 
few examples of usage.
