For what it's worth - this seems to be working, sporadically.  It looks 
like this must be some sort of client-side problem; I can see events in 
Lightning 0.3.1 sometimes but not always, and there seems to be no rhyme 
or reason to it.  Perhaps 0.5 will indeed make it better, but I'm now 
fairly satisfied that the back-end is working as it's supposed to work.
