3-5 days of work to make this change? i have to believe that's
dreadfully pessimistic of you. please show me the area of code where
create and update requests are constructed so that i can judge this
for myself.

i don't recall specifying preferences during signup to have ever been
on the table for 0.7. can somebody confirm this with a bug number?
