Yeah, it's pretty bad. To be fair, I imagine it's something like:

1) Request looks weird to safari/ ie
2) Exception raised in browser code
3) Appropriate information not added back into XHR object

Regardless, it's not pretty.

Yeah, I think this would actually work. I'll also report this as a  
bug in webkit when I do this work, (probably post preview?) so maybe  
it will be fixed someday in Safari at least. IE is a different, and  
much sadder story. The best we can do is hope for its eventual demise.
