This has started to become the subject of some debate here at  
CalConnect.

What it comes down to is that there are a lot of planned additions to  
iCalendar that aren't defined in 2445. Some if not all of which will  
break current clients servers.

The consensus seems to be that clients and servesr should start  
accepting and storeing any iCalendar data they don't understand and  
not remove it or fail.
