Thanks for the reply.

I'll try the build again with the ignore switch in the morning. (I 
forgot to mention I'm building from the SVN trunk, not a packaged source 
tree)

FYI - The Linux build (compiled from scratch) is all based on UTF-8. The 
JVM is not re-built from source. That's just the standard JDK from Sun.

My system as a whole has built quite a bit of stuff flawlessly; from 
itself ;-) to X.org, Firefox, Tomcat, Asterisk, Apache, PHP, MySQL, 
Postgresql and loads of associated of libraries etc. Tomcat is started 
automatically from an init script and is fired up by jsvc so I can run 
it as non-root.

Thanks for your help so far and sorry for the dupes on the list - I 
think my initial sign-up got confused between googlemail and gmail.
