Yup.  Though I don't have ready access to my wife's laptop at the moment, as
of when I left this morning it was able to view events properly, and add
them.  The spare machine I've got here at work for testing (which is
painfully slow, or I'd use it for real instead of Outlook as I am)
duplicates the behaviour of my home desktop, which can add but not view
events.

UPDATE: I just deleted and recreated the calendar entry in Evolution (that
is, the subscription, not the calendar itself).  For some reason, this
*seems* to have allowed me to view properly.  It looks like Evolution is
flakey - thank you for your time and help!
