 From a pure build/release point of view the merge makes life easier for 
me as it removes the Scooby step.

I would like to see the hibernate merge earlier than later for the one 
big reason that changing back-end storage code, in my past database 
experience, *always* leads to new and fun bugs because of any 
assumptions in the code.
