The way to keep an item out of the Dashboard is to add it to another
collection, then select that collection and go to the Collection menu,
Keep out of Dashboard (or right-click the collection and choose Keep out
of Dashboard).

Note that if an item is in more than one collection, and any of those
collections are shown in the Dashboard, the item will appear in Dashboard.

If an item is only in Dashboard, when you remove from Dashboard, it will
be moved to Trash.  To avoid this, add the item to another collection
that is kept out of Dashboard; now, if you remove the item from
Dashboard, it will still be in the other collection but will disappear
from Dashboard.
