Yes, I think this is a known limitation of the iPhone app. I believe  
it's the same for Apple iCal, only collections you've created on Hub  
or published to Hub show up in iCal. Adding the ability to see  
subscriptions is another chunk of work. (Jeffrey can correct me if  
I'm wrong...)

Unfortunately no, he will have to move items through the Desktop.
