Hi Everybody
First, thanks to everyone for taking the time to try and help me with my backup problem, I do appreciate it.
I am struggling a little to understand fully the conversation that is taking place, but if I understand it correctly, before reformatting my old computer I took the wrong kind of backup for Chandler. Opinion is divided over whether my personal data can be recovered from this backup.
Just to recap and clarify some points, my old Computer was running Windows XP SP3 and when I reformatted it I again used windows XP SP3.
I believe from memory the old Chandler version was 7.5.1 and I think the new version I installed was version 1.0 (which seemed a bit strange to me as there was only a couple of weeks between each download).
Trying to restore the repository gave me the incompatibility error message suggesting it was a version issue.
So I removed version 1 from my system and went back and installed v7.5.1 but got the same error message trying to restore the repository.
After that I removed version 7.5 .1 so I now have no Chandler installed on my PC at present, so I have no log files to provide you with.
After reading these exchanges, I started to feel that perhaps I should just concede that I have lost my work, re install the latest Chandler and simply start again. Oh, and, of course, learn how to do a proper backup.
So, I have now reinstalled v1.0 and tested chex backups and they work fine. I have also started on my stuff again and in a couple more hours I'll be done. So, for me, and all of us, I think this is the quickest way to go. Lesson learned. Check backups work with a test re-install before reformatting.
Just a couple of questions if I can have some more of your time. Will these backups (.chex) work with all future versions of Chandler? Will they work on different PC's, say, if I want to send them to members of my team in different locations on different PC's (XP as well as Vista and Mac) etc?
Thanks again for all your time.
Rob
