Just wanted to comment on the demo videos. When you
redo them, as you will have to do at some point
(they're already out of date), I suggest the
following:
(1) Very quiet, slow-moving background music or, even
better, none at all. The fast-paced techno stuff makes
it much harder to digest the information, and I don't
think it adds to the demo's "advertisement" function
either. Basically, if your target audience is anything
like me, it wants Chandler to make life calmer, not
busier.
(2) Shorter lists of tasks. Filling the screen with
tasks, in my view, makes the product less
understandable and also less appealing on a subliminal
level. Same thing with piling up events three-deep on
the calendar.
(3) Collection names that are consistent with the
strings in the tasks. The example uses "Peepeedee" as
a collection name and "PPD" elswewhere.
(4) A larger number of videos.
(5) Proof-edit the content. One of the collections is
called "Smorgsabord" but should be "Smorgasbord".
(6) Make the videos smaller if possible. I can't see
the top of the (QuickTime) videos unless I get rid of
the navigation toolbar in Firefox. I'm using 1024 x
768 resolution on an ordinary monitor. (I can't see
the Flash videos at all - haven't figured out why
yet.)
On another subject, as I've mentioned before, these
digests are still very hard to read, since many
(most?) of the people who reply to the mailing list
seem to be simply leaving all the existing content in
their replies rather than chopping away all but the
relevant part.
Thanks,
Alan
