yes running /usr/local/chandler/chandler works just fine.  doh.

I open nautilus, and double click the .deb file, and it installs fine,
including dependencies. Don't know why things failed for you.

Right, the installer does not put it in your path. There is a patch to
automatically add a menu entry, but I don't think that has been checked
in yet.

This won't work, like you found out, because you need to set up some
environment variables first. There is a Chandler launcher in the
directory that you can use: /usr/local/chandler/chandler.
