I'm glad to hear you got past that, though there's nothing I know of  
in 10.5.3 that should have triggered that kind of hang. There might be  
some evidence in your chandler.log [*] from around the time of the  
hang that might be a clue.

Chandler/xxxxxxxx.default/chandler.log, where xxxxxxxx is a random  
sequence of letters.
