I just tried this using 0.7.7 in XP2, subscribe worked fine.

Is there anything unusual about your network?  A proxy server or 
anything like that?

If you could email me your chandler.log file, I might have a better 
chance of diagnosing this, but it's a little tough since I can't 
reproduce it.
