So, I did try this out, and got things to work. Here's roughly what I  
did:

1) Clicked the "Plugins -> Google -> Subscribe to Google Calendar ..."  
menu.

2) Clicked OK in the resulting Dire Warning Panel™ (about feature  
being experimental)

3) The Accounts dialog came up, and I filled in my gmail.com account  
info, and clicked OK.

4) I then got a panel asking me which of my google calendars I wanted  
to subscribe to. I picked one, and it was added to the sidebar.

After this, I was able to create new events in Chandler, drag and drop  
events to move them around, and sync between Google's web app and  
Chandler.
