I think Sam's feature request could be reframed as: Try to simulate  
the kind of free-form notation users can do with paper day planners.  
I think something like this would be incredibly useful for helping  
people 'see' what's important on their calendar. Right now,  
everything is of equal importance, especially in Month view where all  
events, no matter what their duration, are given the same screen real- 
estate.

What might 'free-form notation look like?
+ Sticky notes?
+ Callouts with more detailed info about an event that you can adjust  
the size of and either leave open/closed'

We've also experimented with flexible multi-week views and ways to  
'graph' events on the calendar to make month and multi-week views  
yield more information. (Scroll down a little for mockup)
