There's currently no way to do this, but if it was a sought after
feature we could implement it easily, I think.

Unfortunately, this is just the way Thunderbird's UI handles IMAP, all
IMAP folders are considered subfolders of INBOX (as it happens that's
how they're modeled in IMAP, but Thunderbird's UI didn't have to expose
that detail to us...).  I've gotten used to this, I just keep INBOX
expanded, but I remember being irritated by it at first, too.
