This is the first in a series of newsletters I will be compiling for
the Users list. The newsletter is intended to be a roll-up of some of
the more interesting design discussions: a 'Did you know...?' Tips
and Tricks section on using Chandler culled from the users list
itself, New Features that are coming, and Major Usability and
Workflow issues that are being discussed on the design list.

The newsletter itself is meant to be brief, a way for users list
subscribers to get an overview of what's going on without having to
read every last message. However, it's also mean to generate further
discussion on the list so please respond with questions, comments and
especially if you feel that something important should have been
included.

I imagine that depending on list and development activity, I will
endeavor to compile a newsletter approximately once a month.

Tips and Tricks - Did you know...?

1. Andre described a neat way for people to email messages, tasks and
events to your Chandler Desktop via Chandler's special IMAP folders.
http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/chandler-users/2007-
September/000625.html

Andre has set up separate email addresses for each IMAP folder to
accomplish this, but I imagine you could also do this by 'tagging'
messages in the subject line and setting up rules to automatically
file those messages into the Chandler IMAP folders.

2. Katie has been using weekly anytime events as a way to keep track
of issues she needs to discuss with individual members of the OSAF
team. Each person gets their own recurring series and each week, they
automatically pop into the NOW section of her Dashboard in accordance
with the recurrence rule. She's said that it doesn't even really
matter who goes on which day which prompted me to think that it might
be worth reviving the idea of extending 'anytime this day' to include
options for 'some time this week' or 'some time this month'. She uses
the Notes field to track discussion topics for each week. Each week's
occurrence stays in her NOW section until she's finished with all the
open issues and marks it DONE.

3. I personally have been sharing a 'Fun Activities' collection with
friends. It's mostly a calendar of events to go to. But once in a
while, I find it useful to throw in a Note to list out ideas for
'Movie Nights' or 'Restaurants To Try'.

NEW FEATURE WORK

1. We have kicked off month view on the Desktop and month view and
overlays in Chandler Hub with some initial design meetings. A first
pass at overlays in Chandler Hub is coming out with the 0.9 release
that is due in a couple of weeks.

2. Some usability and workflow issues we're working on:

+ Items popping into the top of NOW that shouldn't be

- Some of the bugs called out in this thread have already been fixed
and targetted to Desktop Release 0.7.2

+ Improvements to how the Triage Status column sorts in the LATER and
DONE sections

+ Improvements to what appears in the Who column, when

+ Re-ordering Triage Status so that the order is now NOW to LATER to
DONE
- FIXED: https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10926

+ Importing from Google Calendar: Google Calendar does let you export
your calendar data as an .ics file. So the only way to get your data
out and into Chandler is to subscribe read-only to your Google
Calendar directly from Chandler. However, once you've done that, you
can't edit it anymore! We're looking at ways to get around that,
namely, allowing users to make local changes to view-only calendars
and instructions on how to work around Google Calendar's lack of
support for calendar export.
