[chandler-users] What's "Restore published shares"?

Hi Jared,
I've used it many times without particular issue. Using the sharing
account info you've entered into the accounts dialog in Chandler,
Restore published shares will poll your Cosmo sharing account and
display a list in a dialogue box of all published shares (collections)
found. From there, you can selectively reestablish the "share" (publish)
relationships on a collection basis between Chandler and the sharing
account. More often I use the Save Settings and Restore Settings
features.
Dogfooding on the front edge of continuous builds, I tend to play it
safe and use often the "save settings" feature to save my Chandler
settings in a Chandler.ini file. This is exceptionally convenient for
experimenting with sharing. Saving settings will save the addresses in
an .ini file for published collections (shares) from the publishing
instance of Chandler. Similarly, saving settings for a subscribing
instance of Chandler will save the addresses of the subscriptions of the
subscribed (shared) collections. (A particular instance of Chandler can
publish and subscribe to different CalDAV collections at the same time
so long as this instance is not subscribing to collections it
published.)
The flip side of Save Settings is Restore Settings. For example, after
Andi updates the schema of the Chandler database and with the next build
you receive the "Chandler needs to erase your repository" type message,
if you are sharing the collections in that instance of Chandler with
Cosmo, and you have saved your .ini settings file, clicking on Restore
settings and choosing the appropriate .ini file will download your
collections and reestablish the sharing addresses and such in a rather
seamless and nifty manner, whether from the publish or subscribe
perspective.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Also, of course, if I have
misstated anything or if I misunderstand, I will count on others to
chime in.
Good luck, Andre
